Ray Reynolds has been elected to a third term as Magnolia police chief.
Complete and official returns released Wednesday after a recount that included the affidavit ballots cast in the city’s Democratic primary on Tuesday showed that Reynolds had 323 votes to 307 for John Taylor.
Reynolds has no opposition in the June 2 general election.
“I appreciate our supporters coming out as well as my opponent’s supporters coming out,” Reynolds said.
“My opponent ran a clean race — one of the cleanest I’ve had since I ran eight years ago,” he said. “I want the people to know that regardless of who they voted for, we intend to enforce the law fairly and protect the people of Magnolia over the next four years, and we will continue to serve them.”
In the runoff for alderman at large, Clarence Burton Sr. edged Edward “Bull Moose” Johnson by five votes — 303 to 298 — to win the Democratic nomination.
He faces Smithie Buie Jr. and John Mercier in the general election.
