Van Norman Curve Road has seen seven burglaries in the past two months, and Pike County sheriff’s deputies suspect a string of thefts in the area may be related.
Stephen Rester, of the 2000 block of Van Norman Curve Road, was the latest victim. He told deputies that he discovered the door to his home had been kicked in and a laptop computer had been stolen on Friday night.
Right around the same time, Erica Roberts, of the 1100 block of McComb-Holmesville Road, told deputies someone kicked in her door and took electronics and cash from her residence.
All burglaries follow the same pattern, Chief Investigator Lance Falvey said.
“Every break-in involved the suspects kicking in the door, walking in and stealing items while the resident is away,” he said.
The number of burglaries could “be over a dozen,” when considering similar cases in the area, Falvey said.
He said flat-screen TVs, computers and firearms are among the items being reported stolen.
Falvey urges residents pay attention to detail and call the sheriff’s department if they see anything out of the ordinary. He also suggests home owners document their valuables by taking pictures of the belongings’ serial numbers.
