It’s prom season and no teenagers are allowed.
The second adult prom will be held 7 p.m. to midnight Nov. 24 at the McComb Mill on 529 South Broadway.
Admission is $35 for singles, $65 for couples and $400 for a table for 10, which includes food and a complimentary bottle of wine.
Proceeds will be given to a McComb High School senior as a scholarship to help them jumpstart their college education.
Hosted by hairstylist and McComb High alumna Lacy Felder, plans for an adult prom first began in December 2016 after a conversation with her mother, Mary Ratcliff.
“We were just talking about high school and how we had so much fun, but she made it clear to me that she had to grow up her senior year,” Felder said.
At 17, Ratcliff became pregnant with Felder’s sister, Gabriella Davis. Felder’s father, Darry, had graduated, but Ratcliff missed out on high school milestones.
“My mom missed her graduation, she missed her senior prom, she missed just being a kid,” Felder said. “So she said, ‘If I could do one thing over, I would go to the prom.’ ”
After the conversation, Felder posted her adult prom idea on Facebook to get feedback. Because the response was good, she set up the first event for anyone aged 25 and older. This year, Felder opened up the event to those aged 21 and older.
“There’s a wide range of people there who are coming together for one thing and that’s to have a really, really good time,” she said.
The theme of the prom is “Mardi Gras Glam” and attendees can expect a bar and New Orleans-style food. People also can vote for a prom king and queen in two categories: between 25 and 40 and another for those who are 55 or older.
“This event is to have an amazing time, to make new memories and to help our community grow because there’s so much bad stuff happening in McComb. If I can aid in giving anything positive or happy, I’m doing it.”
So far, Felder said she has sold around 100 tickets and will stop at 200.
“If you don’t want to attend, you can always donate,” she said. “It’s for a good cause and donations are appreciated whether it’s food, drinks, cups, funding for anything.”
