With a new store opening in Summit, Guy’s Pharmacy will offer treatment options that were not available before.
The pharmacy’s opening has been delayed by about two months, but pharmacist Keith Guy said he hopes to start business by the first week of December.
“But it depends on the weather,” Guy said. “We’ve had delay after delay that has affected our opening.”
The Summit store will operate as Simply Well Family Medicine, but its corporate name is Guy’s Integrative Medicine Institute.
“Integrative medicine is a type of natural medicine, but our business model is going to be to give the community their choice,” he said.
Traditional treatment is also available, but if someone is interested in digging deeper into the reasons for their illness, Guy’s Pharmacy provides complementary treatment options.
“The nurse practitioner we have is not throwing away everything she learned,” Guy said. “We’re just going to give people a choice. If they want to look at more natural, complementary treatment methods, we can do that.”
Sue Bryant is the new nurse practitioner and the office manager will be Marlene Dundas, both of whom have “many, many years of experience,” Guy said.
The lab testing services offered at Marion Avenue will be reolcated to Summit. Kim McKnight will be in charge of lab testing services.
By working in conjunction with the nurse practitioner, Guy said the pharmacy will be able to provide more lab tests that will help determine the source of a problem. The compounding lab will remain at the Marion Avenue location.
“We will be doing unique things like bioidentical hormone replacement therapy in men’s and women’s health treatment,” Guy said.
The pharmacy will also have an IV suite for IV therapy.
“We’ll be able to do Myers’ cocktails, which is a high-potency vitamin infusion,” Guy said. “We have a BEMER therapy, which increases circulation, and we’re going to have a detox sauna.”
Guy said he will continue working at the Marion Avenue location, but will do functional medicine consults in Summit.
“Functional medicine is a type of medicine that rather than treating symptoms finds the sources of problems and complementary medicines that can help treat those,” he said.
