A shortfall in the 2007 property tax revenue has forced North Pike School District officials to ask the Pike County Board of Supervisors for more money.
The school district’s board of trustees on Thursday night approved a resolution asking the supervisors for $91,511 that the district did not receive in 2007 for the 2007-08 school year.
North Pike Superintendent Dr. Ben Cox said the money sought is the difference between the $2.069 million the school district requested last school year and the $1.9 million it received.
He said the school district asks the county for funding based on the school district’s millage and county’s collection rate. County officials, he said, determine the amount the school district receives.
“I’m not sure of the reason (for the shortfall),” Cox said. “It may have been because of the collection rate.”
He said the next step in obtaining the money involves issuing a shortfall note and advertising for bids from area banks for the loan, which the county will pay off.
