Scott Campbell retained the District 2 seat on the North Pike school board in voting Tuesday, winning by a single vote.
Campbell, a real estate agent, squeaked by challenger Betty Webber, a former financial secretary for the district, 90 votes to 89.
“I want to thank the people who came out and voted. I appreciate that,” Campbell said this morning.
Turnout was low for the election, with only 15 percent of registered voters going to the polls.
“I’m disappointed that turnout was (so low), but I’m going to use this as a civics lesson that every vote counts,” Campbell said. “Some people may think it’s just one vote and it doesn’t matter, but it does.”
He congratulated Weber on running a good clean campaign and said he will continue working for the betterment of North Pike schools and students.
“I want our students to get the best quality education possible,” Campbell said.
Weber could not be reached for comment this morning.
Campbell carried Old Jones School 56-52 and Holmesville 8-2. Weber won the Calvary Baptist Church and Workforce Training Center precincts, 21-14 and 14-11, respectively.
Of the 179 ballots, two were affidavits, five were absentee and three were curbside.
Campbell has served as president of the school board this year.
