Two of the three suspects wanted in connection with the November burglary of a Magnolia-area store are behind bars this morning after their mothers convinced them to surrender, a sheriff’s investigator said.
Tyrus Brock, 21, 78043 M.C. Carter Road, Kentwood, La., and Jada Magee, 19, 2180 Magnolia-Progress Road, face charges in connection with the Nov. 6 burglary of BDS Country Store on Dudley-Rimes Road.
Brock is charged with aggravated assault on an officer, felony fleeing, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Magee is charged with burglary.
Pike County sheriff’s chief investigator Chris Bell said the investigation took a turn on Dec. 19, when a sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle in which Brock was a passenger.
He said Brock allegedly pushed the driver out of the way, took control of the vehicle and led lawmen on a short chase before eluding capture.
Bell said Brock also is accused of assaulting sheriff’s Lt. John Glapion during the incident.
Bell said he was contacted Monday by the suspects’ mothers, who said they were bringing them to the department to surrender.
Bell said an investigation pointed to Brock, Magee and Desmond Martin, 21495 East Fork Road, Mount Hermon, La., as the suspects.
He said Brock’s and Magee’s mothers turned their children in after detectives applied “a little pressure.”
Meanwhile, Martin is still wanted for his alleged participation in the burglary.
The three allegedly used a chunk of asphalt to break the front glass of the store before taking cash, cigarettes and cigars.
Brock remains in jail in lieu of $85,000 bond, while Magee is being held on $10,000 bond.
