A McComb man has been charged with manslaughter in last weekend’s death of a 22-month girl who died after she was struck by a pickup while crossing a street with her family.
McComb police Lt. Mike Roberts said Jonathan McCaskill, 28, of Old Liberty Road, surrendered at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the manslaughter charge stems from McCaskill’s apparent negligence in failing to yield to the right of way during the accident.
He remained in the Pike County jail this morning held on $50,000 bond.
If convicted he faces up to 25 years in prison.
The accident occurred at 9:58 a.m. Saturday when McCaskill, driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup, allegedly struck Erin Jeanson, 22, and her daughter Noël as they were crossing Seventh Street at Pennsylvania Avenue.
Police said McCaskill was turning left onto Seventh Street from Pennsylvania Avenue when the pickup struck the toddler and her mother.
Police said the toddler’s father, Stephen Jeanson was pulling the girl in a wagon when the accident occurred. He was not hurt.
