A McComb man wanted for a reported rape that took place in October is still on the run, and law enforcement are looking for help from the public in tracking him down.
Justin Brumfield, 25, of 228 S. Cherry St., is wanted for the reported rape of a 16-year-old girl as she walked to school on the early morning of Oct 23.
“We are still looking for him,” McComb Detective Deska Varnado said. “We want to remind the public that we haven’t forgotten and we are continuing to do everything we can to bring him in.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been brought in to assist with the manhunt, but little in the way of leads has surfaced, Varnado said. He said it’s possible Brumfield is still in Pike County, where he has family and friends.
Brumfield listed home address was Gradyville
Road in Magnolia in September 2013, when he was sentenced for failure to support minor children in Pike County Circuit Court.
After the October assault, Varnado called Brumfield “one of the most dangerous kinds of predators.”
Police said the girl’s attacker hid behind the bushes along the route she takes to her school bus stop. He snatched the victim as she walked by and forced her to the yard of an abandoned house in the 200 block of South Cherry Street, where he sexually assaulted her.
Brumfield is 5-feet, 8-inches tall and does not have any distinguishing features such as tattoos, Varnado said.
A Crimestoppers reward is being offered for any information leading to Brumfield’s arrest, Varnado said.
Anyone with information on Brumfield’s whereabouts is asked to call the department at 684-3213 or Crimestoppers at 684-0033.
