A Brookhaven man is behind bars after allegedly admitting to a fatal Christmas Eve shooting.
Police said Demetrius Wilson, 26, 122 N. Street Drive, was shot after returning from shopping with his girlfriend.
Yaquilla Washington, 27, of 505 Vanzie St., has been charged with murder.
He was arrested less than 10 minutes after the shooting, which took place at 12:32 p.m. in the Cloverdale Acres neighborhood of Brookhaven.
Police say the two men exchanged words while Wilson was in his vehicle.
Wilson and his girlfriend then drove to an apartment, where she dropped off some Christmas gifts. When she returned to the car, she and other witnesses told police they saw Washington fire three shots at Wilson.
Wilson was outside the vehicle when he was shot.
Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell said that before the shooting, Wilson allegedly asked Robinson, “Why do you have a gun?”
He said the weapon used was a .38-caliber pistol.
Washington is being held in the Lincoln County Jail.
