Amite County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men over the weekend in conjunction with the shooting of a man, said Sheriff Tim Wroten.
Lazerrick Michell, 21, of Porter Lane in Gloster, turned himself in to deputies on Friday night for allegedly shooting a Liberty man with birdshot pellets, landing him an attempted murder charge.
Alford Porter, 20, of Jerusalem Road in Liberty, surrendered to the sheriff’s department on Saturday. He is charged with accessory after the fact.
Wroten said deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. Friday to a disturbance at a home on Jerusalem Road, where they found a man shot in his back.
Officers would not release the man’s name.
The victim told officers Mitchell and Porter had allegedly been at his home when an argument occurred between himself and Mitchell, Wroten said. When the victim told the men to leave, Mitchell allegedly pulled a shotgun from the trunk of his car and fired once, hitting the man.
The sheriff said the victim then drove away in a truck, with Mitchell allegedly firing two more shots and hitting the truck.
Mitchell and Alford then allegedly fled the scene.
The victim went to Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, where he was treated and released.
Wroten said officers visited the shooting victim again on Sunday and got a complete statement.
Mitchell and Porter were both in the Amite County jail with no bond this morning.
