A man died Friday night after being involved in an ATV wreck then getting run over by a car near Kentwood, Louisiana.
Matthew J. Mahler, 22, of Vacherie, Louisiana, was involved in a 4-wheeler accident at around 11 p.m.
Louisiana State Police said Mahler and another 4-wheeler rider were westbound in a drainage ditch that runs along the north side of the highway. Mahler apparently hit a culvert in the ditch, flipped the 4-wheeler and was ejected, coming to rest in the westbound lane of the highway.
The driver of the other 4-wheeler was attempting to help Mahler when a small dark-colored car approached them. Mahler’s companion attempted to alert the driver, but the car struck Mahler and fled.
Mahler was transported to Saint Helena Parish Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was not wearing a helmet, and alcohol is suspected, police said.
The Louisiana State Police believe that the suspected vehicle could have lower front bumper and undercarriage damage.
