McComb police recovered a stolen truck Wednesday just before it was about to meet its fate at a local scrap yard.
Detective Deska Varnado said Johnny Ray Badon reported his 1999 red Chevrolet S-10 stolen from his home on 319 North Live Oak St., at 12:11 p.m. Saturday.
Varnado said the Pike County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a vehicle towing a truck matching the description of the stolen S-10 around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Varnado said police stopped the truck and charged 19-year-old Marquise Carroll with possession of stolen property.
“He had taken the battery out of the truck, and the ignition switch was damaged,” he said.
Varnado said Carroll was allegedly using a screwdriver to start the truck and had taken the battery to a recycling center with plans to take the vehicle to a scrap yard to have it crushed.
He said Carroll picked up a grand larceny charge after detectives determined he was the person who took the vehicle.
Carroll remains in the Pike County jail this morning on a $25,000 bond.
In other news, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary at J & M Diesel repair in Osyka.
Pike County Chief Investigator Greg Martin said Glenda Craft reported a damaged Coke machine at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.
