A McComb man is on the lam after he allegedly shot and killed his son and wounded an Illinois woman after an Monday night.
McComb police Detective Sid Boyte said officers responded to a report of gunfire around 8 p.m. at the home located at 330 S. Fourth St., McComb at the intersection of South Fourth Street and Virginia Avenue.
Boyte said John Young, 46, allegedly shot Roderick Young, 28, and Brianna Harmon, 22, both of Waukegan, Ill., after an argument.
Boyte said it’s unclear what the men were arguing over or why it escalated.
Boyte said both Young and Harmon went by ambulance to the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center emergency room.
He said Young suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Harmon was treated and released.
He said it is unknown where the two were hit.
Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman said doctors worked to save Young but were unsuccessful.
He was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m.
Young’s body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
Pittman said Young and Harmon were in town for a funeral.
Young’s funeral arrangements are incomplete with Young’s Funeral Home in Summit.
This is the first homicide in McComb this year.
Boyte said police are working to locate the elder Young.
