Variety is the byword at Ginny’s Gifts and Collectibles, where customers can get anything from Bibles to baseball caps, CDs to ceramics.
“It’s a variety,” said owner Evelyn Bell.
She’s referring to her jewelry collection but could be talking about the store as a whole.
“You never know what they’re going to come in and ask for,” she said — so she wants to be prepared.
The shop is located at 704 Delaware Ave., McComb.
While the selection is breathtaking, one thing stands out: Bibles.
“They’re always interested in the Bibles,” Bell said of customers. “That’s one of my top sellers. King James is one of the best.”
Other popular translations are New International Version and Holman Christian Standard Bible.
They come in all sorts of designs and formats, too. Bell imprints the Bibles at no charge if they’re purchased in her store.
A room in the store is dedicated to religious books, ranging from commentaries to devotionals, with authors as varied as Charles Stanley, Priscilla Shirer, David Jeremiah, Beth Moore, Joel Osteen, Joseph Prince, Benny Hinn, Oswald Chambers, Max Lucado, James Dobson and Tim LaHaye. Plus there are copies of the autobiography “Rising Sons” by McComb minister Nathan Johnson.
“We do real good with the religious devotionals. ‘Jesus Calling’ is one of the top,” Bell said.
A Christian theme pervades the store, which offers Communion sets, children’s Bibles, greeting cards, church bulletins, Bible covers, jigsaw puzzles, caps, mugs, and CDs by the likes of The Rance Allen Group and Mahalia Jackson.
The store offers shelf after shelf of figurines, like Jim Shore Designs, Leanin’ Tree, Precious Moments and Willow Tree. Many of them have a Christmas theme, from Santas to angels to Nativity scenes.
Ginny’s is loaded with other Christmas decorations as well, including flashing ornaments.
There are also more general gifts like baby items, stuffed animals, picture frames, college-themed gear (Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, USM), crystal ware, scented candles, wedding items, decorated pillows, cookbooks, ties, and large colorful umbrellas with wooden handles.
Among the more striking gifts are solar-powered globes that turn slowly, showing either the planet Earth or constellations of the night sky.
Wherever they look, customers will find something that catches the eye.
“I want them to look around, and I offer to help,” Bell said. “If they kind of give me an idea of what they’re looking for, I can go right to the item.”
