A Mississippi Department of Corrections inmate escaped from the community work center in Woodville on Thursday, only to be recaptured about eight hours later.
Jeffrey McWhorter, 20, was discovered missing at approximately 4:25 p.m. from the Wilkinson County Community Work Center in Woodville.
He was captured without incident just after midnight in the Woodville area by MDOC officials.
McWhorter is serving a two-year sentence for a burglary conviction from Marion County.
He will be transported to Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County and now faces an additional five-year sentence if convicted of escape.
An investigation into how he left the facility is under way, MDOC officials said.
