Local golfers will tee off for area kids at the McComb Coca-Cola’s 30th annual Toys for Tots Golf Tournament.
The fundraiser begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Saturday at the Fernwood Country Club.
Participants will receive a hot breakfast in the clubhouse, lunch, prizes, greens fees and a cart for the $100 entry fee, along with the gratification of knowing that they have helped make sure local kids get a gift from Santa.
Organizer Ted Tullos said entries are still being accepted.
“We all enjoy getting gifts, and especially children at Christmas time. We want to make sure we cover as many kids as possible,” he said.
Tullos has been in on the event from the very beginning, working with co-sponsor, the Pike County Volunteers for Children & Youth.
“When we first moved here we saw a need for local kids,” Tullos said. “That’s what’s important about this is that all of the proceeds go to benefit the Pike County Volunteers for Children & Youth.”
The group will purchase gifts and clothing for the foster children in the Pike County area, Tullos said, and all of these gifts will be wrapped and delivered to children in foster care.
“They know where a lot of need is and we find out a lot about who we need to give to through them,” Tullos said. “And, everything stays here. Money spent here, goes to children right here at home.
“Something I like to tell the golfers at the end of the day is this, ‘I want y’all to know when you go home today, you have each been Santa Claus today for kids that otherwise would not have gotten a Christmas.’
Tullos said contributions are tax deductible.
