A Gloster man remains in the Amite County jail held without bond and accused of the Saturday night fatal shooting of his stepfather.
Amite County Chief Deputy Ray Austin said Charles Jon Gautier, 35, 796 E. Pearl St., Gloster, was charged Saturday with manslaughter in the death of Alvin J. Gray, 70, also of 796 Pearl St., Gloster, during an argument. The address is just outside the Gloster city limits.
Austin said the incident occurred about 10:38 p.m., adding that the shooting was the result of an ongoing argument between the men.
He said Gautier, who lived in a trailer on the same property as Gray’s house, allegedly went to Gray’s home with a 12-gauge shotgun, and the two had an altercation on the porch of the house.
The men separated, and Gautier began to walk away but went about 20 yards before allegedly turning around and shooting Gray in the chest.
Austin said Gray was taken to Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
