Lynn Wells at Gulf/South Art Gallery suggests shoppers have an artistic bent when looking for Christmas gifts.
Gulf/South Art Gallery, 228 Fifth Ave., McComb, is filled with unique pieces and jewelry from local and regional artists.
Manager Lynn Wells said the item that most people purchase is McCarty Pottery by Lee McCarty.
McCarty, from the Delta town of Merigold, and his wife Pup created pottery together up until their deaths.
After the couple died, their godsons Jamie and Stephen Smith took over the business.
“Jamie does more of the pottery and Stephen handles the business side,” Wells said.
McCarty pieces are distinctive in their earthy tones of browns, greens and jade. The pieces can be used as decor or as serving pieces.
But, the thing that sets them apart are the lines that are found in the brown and green pieces, the McCarty signature.
Wells said the line represents the Mississippi River and can only be found in the brown and green pieces.
“They couldn’t do it on the jade because of the glaze that covers it,” Wells said.
The McCarty’s are known for their intricate and signature designs that are sure to be a hit during your Christmas celebrations.
She said the collection is one of her more popular items.
“A lot of people here are collectors of McCarty pottery,” Wells said.
She said she also has a coffee table book filled with beautiful pictures depicting the McCarty pottery pieces for $100 and it’s a great Christmas present.
Wells said she also has crystal angels, beavers, birds, art and other beautiful items that would make great stocking stuffers.
She said free gift wrapping is offered year-round, including Christmas. So, don’t hesitate to take a look in Gulf-South to find the unique gift for your loved one.
