Accounting firm Faust & Associates has stepped down as a consultant for the City of McComb, City Administrator Jim Storer confirmed Tuesday.
The firm spent several years as the city’s auditor.
Its consulting role grew out of the discovery of irregularities in city accounts for the 2006-07 fiscal year; the city brought in another auditor at the time to allow Faust & Associates to function as a consultant on how to fix the problems.
No reason was cited for the firm’s decision to resign, and CPA Mike Faust had no comment Tuesday.
In a May 19 letter to the city board, Faust wrote: “This is to inform you that effective immediately we are disengaging our consulting and all other services for the City of McComb. We encourage you to retain a new CPA. We have enjoyed working with you and we wish you every continued success in the future. If you have any questions during the transition period, please contact us. We do not keep any original records; therefore, you should have all the records in your possession necessary to change to a new accountant.”
Storer said his understanding was that the firm’s growth required more attention to other company clients and projects. He said there were no immediate plans to hire a replacement, but that a consultant could be retained on a case by case basis in the future.
“As we need someone, we’ll ask a CPA firm to help us,” Storer said.
