Soon, another oil industry community will be born.
This time it will be located just west of Interstate 55 on Hamp Lea Road, extending west to Kennedy Road outside Magnolia.
Carolyn Nelson, real estate agent with Southern Sight Realty sold five acres of land to TDJ Oilfield Services out of Odessa, Texas. She said the company is in the oil play for the long haul.
“They are talking about the next 20 years. It’s commercial. They are bringing in the heavy equipment,” Nelson said.
The company plans to have a gated community con structed to house its workers, she said.
Nelson and company officials are scrambling to prepare the site by Friday, when workers are expected to start moving onto the property.
Nelson said a company official told her they have spent more than $100,000 on security equipment alone.
Finding property to sell or lease is becoming a problem, according to Nelson. The supply is not keeping pace with demand. Nelson said she has fielded calls from at least four other oil company representatives looking to lease or purchase property.
“They’re calling me like all get out,” Nelson said. “We are overwhelmed. It’s a good problem to have.”
Southwest Mississippi Realtors have been helpful working with Nelson to provide rental units for oil company workers, she said. Oilfield workers are increasing exponentially by the day, and so is the need for property, rental units and hotel accommodations.
