The Enterprise-Journal’s Home for the Holidays local shopping campaign is running through Christmas. Each day the newspaper will feature a business participating in Home for the Holidays.
Cloud 9 Salon & Gifts in Summit opened late in 2012 and was able to expand into an adjacent shop space this September when the former tenant left.
Located at 708 Robb St., the salon and gift shop offers competitive prices for its services and products.
“We try to keep our prices as low as possible,” owner Kari Gill said. “I think that’s why we’ve been so successful so far, because we’re still making a profit but we’re not killing people’s wallets.”
When Gill chose to expand the gift portion of the shop, she asked Ava Hinson to help with some of the gifts. Hinson, owner and designer for the home décor and painted furniture company Vintique, brought in a variety of hand-painted furniture and decorative pieces to sell.
With a full-service salon on one side of the shop and a clothing, accessory and home décor section on the other, Cloud 9 offers a unique local shopping experience.
“We have the fashion clothes and jewelry but yet you can pick up home décor and get a haircut, too,” Hinson said.
The salon offers waxing, tanning, hair, manicure and pedicure services that rival high-end salons without the high-end prices. Gill said pedicures are the most asked for service, especially during the warmer months, and run $25.
Gill originally opened the salon on her own but recently added stations to better serve her growing customer base. The salon has two stylists and is one of the few in the area offering the trendy ombré hair dying services that create a gradient look from root to tip.
“We had a girl come in the other day who said, ‘I’ve been calling everywhere, and y’all are the only ones who will do it,’ ” Gill said. “I didn’t realize that because I thought if that’s the trend then everybody should be doing it.”
The shop carries a selectmen of local jewelry made in Summit, McComb and Smithdale along with burlap runners made and monogrammed in Mississippi. The store is also the only one in the state to carry God Is... clothing with a plethora of colorful, casual tops with the brand emblazoned on the chest and finished on the back of the shirt.
Cloud 9 also carries the hottest trends for the winter season, including printed leggings and festive scarves that fly off the shelves as soon as they’re stocked.
The shop and salon advertise specials and discounts daily on its Facebook page, and the shop always has marked down and clearance items for those looking for last-minute Christmas gifts that won’t break the bank.
“We don’t want them to have to spend their whole paycheck to have something trendy or nice,” Hinson said. “A nice gift to give somebody doesn’t have to cost a lot.”
