McComb officials put off approving police officers for private security details Tuesday night.
Board attorney Angela Cockerham said state law requires some specific information to be included in official approvals on the board minutes.
Use of city vehicles for private services is prohibited under the law, she said, and the board must specify and approve each individual officer for each instance of private security, as well as the uniform allowed to be worn and the weapon allowed to be carried.
That information “has to be spread on the minutes,” Cockerham said, and the board “has to decide that it’s in the best interest of the city” to allow the private security work.
With that information from Cockerham, the board voted unanimously to skip over the security request for the time being.
