McComb police are telling residents to be more diligent in locking up their vehicles and houses amid an apparent spree of eight burglaries that occurred Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Burglars hit one home and seven autos on Sixth, Butler and Bendat streets, Westview Circle and West Avenue, police said.
Police also are investigating the apparently unrelated break-in of an Avenue A house reported Thursday.
“We want to remind people to keep their car doors locked, to not leave valuables in the cars,” McComb police detective Brian Boyd said. “If they must keep valuables in their vehicles, they need to put them some place secure, like the car’s trunk, where they will be out of sight.
“Also, if people keep their cars in a garage, they need to keep the garage doors closed,” Boyd said.
Here’s a rundown of the reported burglaries:
• Michael Bass said Wednesday that someone stole a $300 .38-caliber Remington revolver from his 2008 Nissan Titan pickup while it was parked at his residence in the 700 block of South Sixth Street.
Bass said he went outside about 9:45 p.m. and found all of the truck’s lights on. When he checked the truck the gun was missing.
• Marion Cutrer said Wednesday that someone stole a brown purse containing $50 cash and jewelry from his 2002 Toyota minivan parked at a residence in the 600 block of Sixth Street. The purse was later recovered. Cutrer said someone also broke into a 1993 Toyota pickup parked at the residence, but nothing was taken.
• Jack Ryan said Thursday night that someone stole a purse containing money, keys and miscellaneous items from a 2004 Cadillac Deville parked in the garage of his residence in the 200 block of Westview Circle. He said someone also broke into a 2002 Buick LeSabre, which was also parked in the garage, but nothing was taken. He said a neighbor told him that the cars’ doors were open. Police later recovered the purse and keys on Westview Circle.
