LIBERTY — Amite County supervisors on Monday awarded a contract to reseal about 39 miles of county roads.
T.L. Wallace Construction of Columbia won the contract with a low bid of $1,683,376. After a 5 percent engineering fee and contingencies added, the total actual cost will be $1,969,500. Dickerson & Bowen bid $1,784,179 on the project.
The longest stretch of road to be resealed is an 8.024-mile stretch on Lower Centreville Road.
Other roads in the project include the south end of Busy Corner Road (5.6 miles), East Homochitto Road (4.7), Upper Glading Road (4.6), North Greensburg Road (4.2), Fenn Road(3.9), north end of Busy Corner Road (3.3), Bean Road (2.1), Old Meadville Road (4.7) and South Greensburg Road (1.0).
“We’ve got a lot of low shoulders out there. It would be better for y’all to fix them now and build them up a little bit for us,” county engineer David Cothren told supervisors.
Supervisors also awarded a contract to Magco Inc. of Laurel for a new bridge on Perry Road in District 3, and a new box culvert bridge on Compromise Road in District 1.
Magco’s winning bid was $550,624. The bid went to $644,300 after the 5 percent engineering fee and for contingencies were added.
Other bidders included Dozer LLC. of Natchez (571,093), Wallace ($663,747) and Alabama company Blade Construction ($729,569).
In other business, supervisors:
• Approved $332 for maintenance to service the courthouse and $317 to service the jail.
• Approved paying county emergency management director Sam Walsh’s $25 annual dues to the state emergency management association.
• Approved sheriff Tim Wroten’s third quarter budget request of $243,050.
• Approved a $5,550 software upgrade for Amite County Chancery Clerk Ronny Taylor’s and Amite County Tax Assessor/Collector Eunice Blake’s offices.
• Approved travel to one-day recertification courses for Blake and deputy tax collector Marilyn Harvey. Blake’s course is in Hattiesburg, while Harvey’s is in Meridian. Both are in April.
