Airport board members requested a place on the Pike County supervisors’ agenda for Friday’s meeting, but didn’t show up to discuss their proposal.
A letter from airport board President Steve Rials asked for county assistance in clearing trees and other vegetation near the end of Runway 15.
The clearing would affect about 26 acres, the letter says, and focus on removing possible obstructions to approaching or departing aircraft.
The project is eligible for reimbursement by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the letter continues, at 90 percent by the FAA and 5 percent by MDOT. The grants for such projects are awarded each summer.
The board took no action, instead waiting until airport representatives can meet with the board.
In other business, supervisors:
• Approved a contract with David Godbold and Delta One Security to provide security officers for functions at the multipurpose complex.
The contract presented at the meeting sets a rate of $15 per man-hour worked by security officers for a four-hour minimum. Service for less than four hours will be charged at $20 per hour.
The security personnel will also open and close the building for functions, ensure the building is ready for use and set out partitions if needed.
Godbold submitted a certificate of liability insurance from Nationwide, secured through Price Insurance of McComb.
• Accepted annual commodities and supplies bids, including for mosquito spray, concrete bridge slabs, lumber, gravel, asphalt, pipe and road signs.
No bids were received on grader blades and rip rap, and only one bid each was received on concrete bridge slabs and road signs and road seal aggregate.
