Less than 48 hours after calling a special meeting for this afternoon to hold a hearing for chief financial officer Mary Adams, McComb Mayor Zach Patterson issued a letter Thursday afternoon to postpone the meeting.
Writing to the six selectmen, city administrator and city attorney, Patterson said he delayed the meeting so that Adams could better prepare for it.
“Mrs. Mary Adams had indicated to me that she will not be fully prepared to present her position on the issues that you want to discuss with her by Friday,” the letter said, “Again, it is my desire to be as fair as possible and certainly afford Mrs. Adams full due process.”
Patterson closed the letter by writing he will schedule the meeting for no later than Nov. 19 — which is next Thursday.
The board set the special meeting after discussing Adams’ performance in executive session on Tuesday.
Several selectmen have been critical of her, and she has accused four board members — selectmen Danny Esch, Wade Lamb, E.C. Nobles and Bobby Maddox — and city administrator Quordiniah Lockley and city attorney Wayne Dowdy of conspiring against her.
