A man accused of robbing a McComb convenience store at gunpoint Wednesday became the victim of a robbery not long after the hold-up, handing over his loot to gunmen and confirming the adage there is no honor among thieves.
McComb police Detective Shannon Sullivan said authorities believe that while Wallace Tompson, 27, 108 Desoto Ave., allegedly robbed the BK Mart on Nelson Avenue Wednesday afternoon, two others who were likely involved in the heist robbed Tompson after the fact.
Police arrested Darrick Bolden, 40, whose last known residence was at Community Park Apartments, not far from Tompson’s Burglund residence. Bolden was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and strong-armed robbery. He also had two misdemeanor warrants.
The MPD is looking for a third suspect, Eric Carroll, 29, of 1002 Douglas Drive. Carroll is wanted for strong-armed robbery.
Both Carroll and Bolden could face further charges as the investigation plays out, investigators said.
According to the store clerk, who Sullivan did not want to identify, Tompson entered the BK Food Mart and asked for cigarettes. When the clerk rang him up, Tompson said he didn’t have enough money and left.
About five minutes later, he returned with a pistol, pointed it at the clerk and demanded cash and cartons of Newport cigarettes.
McComb police responded to the call about 2:10 p.m. After reviewing video surveillance, one of the investigators identified the robber, wearing a black jacket, faded jeans and black tennis shoes, as Tompson.
Police went to his last known address, where they arrested him for armed robbery.
When police asked tompson about the items stolen in the robbery, he said he did not have it because he had just been robbed.
Tompson told police Bolden and Carroll robbed him at gunpoint at the intersection of Maddock and Dyson avenues near Greenlawn Cemetery.
Sullivan said investigators picked up Bolden and found money and cigarettes from the BK convenience store in his possession. They also found the pistol used in the robbery, leading investigators to speculate all three were involved.
Sullivan said investigators will conduct “thorough” interviews to attempt to figure out exactly what happened.
“We’re trying to figure out what’s true and what’s not, so we’re being careful right now,” he said.
Bolden has previous drug charges for marijuana and cocaine, according to court records.
The robbery of the BK Food Mart is the second in less than a month. The store was robbed on the night of Dec. 29. In that case, the suspect pointed a pistol at the clerk and demanded money and cigarettes.
