A Gloster man is on life support after he and his wife were injured in a two-car accident on Highway 98 West near Brown Bottling in McComb.
Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said James and Maudie Dixon of Gloster, 89 and 87 respectively, were traveling west in the right lane of Highway 98 in a tan 2017 Ford F250 pickup and attempted to change lanes. Jamiah Soraturu, 24, of McComb was traveling west in the left lane in a white 1999 Toyota Camry.
Fortenberry said Dixon struck Soraturu’s car, causing Dixon’s truck to flip and land in the left lane while Soraturu’s car came to rest in the turning lane.
Kiara Wall of Tylertown said she was traveling east on Highway 98 when she saw the wreck happen.
“It happened so fast. I saw the white car spin around, and the truck flipped,” she said.
Wall said she stopped and got out of her vehicle to help.
“When I got to the truck, the man was unconscious,” she said. Wall said the Dixons were both taken by AAA ambulance to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
James Dixon was then airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he remains on life support.
Traffic on Highway 98 still flowed. Deputies with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department directed drivers while the Mississippi Highway Patrol reconstructed the accident.
The McComb Fire Department and Friendship Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Soraturu did not sustain any injuries in the accident. The wreck is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
