McComb native and Grammy-nominated blues artist Vasti Jackson will be the headlining entertainment on New Year’s Eve in McComb, where organizers are planning a night of food, music and fireworks to ring in 2023.
The event, dubbed A Walk Down Main, will begin at 207 Bistro & Blues from 7 to 9 p.m., Jacquelyn Bryant of the Pike School of Art-Mississippi, which is organizing the celebration, told McComb selectmen Tuesday.
The restaurant will serve heavy hors d'oeuvres and music by the band Collaboration, playing a mixture of blues, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s covers.
Then the revelry will move to the Palace Theater, where Jackson will play from 9 p.m. to midnight. Guests will receive a party favor and glasses of champagne, Bryant said.
“We’re trying to revive our city and our Main Street and Vasti Jackson being from McComb is a perfect fit,” Bryant said. “We’re going to end it at the end of Main Street so it’s a walk on Main Street.”
Tickets to attend the “Walk Down Main” are $20 apiece, with the money going to the PSA, which is a non-profit organization.
Mayor Quordiniah Lockley also said the city is also sponsoring a New Year’s Eve party at the pavilion on Railroad Boulevard from 10 a.m. to midnight with fireworks capping off the event. There is no charge to participate in the city event.
Anthony Harris, one of the owners of 207 Bistro & Blues, said the Collaboration will continue playing after midnight. Anyone who purchases a ticket for the “Walk down Main” will not have to pay the $10 cover charge to get in after midnight, he said.
“Everybody’s here, we will go to the fireworks show and then we’ll go to the after party featuring the live band,” Harris said.
