The Nation's Weather for Wednesday, May 17, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
With a cold front sliding southeastward tomorrow, showers
and thunderstorms will remain a threat for much of the
Southeast. This will be most likely from Louisiana to the
coastal Carolinas. These storms are unlikely to turn severe
but could produce pockets of torrential downpours and even
small hail. Drier and cooler weather is likely in the
Midwest and Northeast, though a couple of showers cannot be
ruled out in northern Maine. Well to the west, additional
storms are likely to develop in the High Plains, from New
Mexico to the western Dakotas. A few of these storms have
the potential to turn severe, with hail and damaging wind
gusts. Showers and storms may also extend westward into the
Rockies and Desert Southwest.
