9/20 BUMPY AND TRASHY
I don’t know who represents the intersection of Locust Street and Pearl River Avenue in McComb, but I think that person should not accept the new pay raise until the washboard street is repaired and the constant pile of garbage and tires east of that intersection is cleared. EDITOR’S NOTE: In fairness to city officials, MDOT built the intersection and intends to replace it. The nearby trash is for the city to clean.
9/13 POTHOLE PREDICTIONS
The pothole at the intersection of West Street and Highway 51 is going to cause an accident because cars have to almost come to a stop after turning off Highway 51. The two potholes on Bendat Street, one on each side, are going to cause an accident. The pothole on Third Street right behind City Hall is going to cause an accident because there is a blind spot where you have to drive around it.
9/6 TOO MUCH UNKEMPT PROPERTY
There are properties on Pennsylvania Avenue and elsewhere that have become a menace to the community, and are destroying the value of all properties in McComb. Sadly, as McComb goes, so goes the values in the surrounding areas. Property devaluation does not stop at the city limit line.
9/3 LEAVE GRETA PATTERSON ALONE
Anyone who ever met Greta Patterson would say she is a kind, sweet and great individual. She made a huge mistake but she did not do that alone. The people that were in charge should shoulder some of the responsibility for poor oversight. It took others looking away for her crime to occur. Remember the fight to put safeguards in place to stop this type of behavior from happening in the future? Leave Greta alone because she wasn’t the only one doing wrong.
9/11 WE NEED MORE CAMERAS
What is happening with all the cameras that were being strategically placed throughout McComb to aide in crime prevention? There is no talk on that progress and we are finding bodies in ditches and chasing petty shoplifters.
9/4 ‘NO PURSUIT’ WILL CHASE AWAY BUSINESS
Where criminals find that they won’t be pursued, crime greatly increases and businesses will close and move to a more favorable location. We have already seen this happen in parts of California and other places. So, if you want to lose your Wal-Mart and other stores you enjoy, “No Pursuit” is a sure way to do it. Most law enforcement is already very cognizant of protecting the innocent public.
9/19 DISAPPOINTING TEST SCORES
The McComb School District scores are deplorable, and what makes it worse is we are failing our children at the earliest stages of life. The foundation is flawed so they don’t stand a chance. The only school with a decent grade was Higgins and guess what? That principal just retired. Some other administrators were promoted, leaving their school struggling. Something is really wrong. High property taxes with an equally high dropout rate.
8/29 ACTION, NOT LIP SERVICE
McComb School District must do better. As Superintendent Hicks settles into her job, it would be a great first step to return a phone call or two. I don’t care who has the top job, my expectation is the same: “Be about what you say.” I think I can speak for most McComb school stakeholders — we don t want any more slogans or lip service. Let’s see action.
9/5 TOO MUCH FOOLISHNESS
The recent drive-by shooting of people who had gathered to watch a fight was an excellent example of Mark Twain’s quote about fools and onlookers. “Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.” The fighters, the onlookers and the shooters all demonstrated that they were fools. When, if ever, will people learn that poor judgment is that of a fool?
9/18 OUT OF PATIENCE
We have been waiting since 2021 for the bridge over on Johnston Station Road to be fixed. The rails are in bad shape. It is becoming dangerous.
8/28 RIGHT ASSIGNMENT, WRONG CAR
I read that off-duty officers are paid with grant funding to sit on the shoulder of the interstate in their police cars with emergency lights flashing to slow traffic and increase the safety of workers in the Delaware exit construction zone. On Saturday 8/24 an officer was in a gray unmarked pickup with blue lights on the visors and in the grille. There was no light bar on top and nothing indicating it was law enforcement except for the blue lights. This assignment should be limited to marked police or sheriff units for obvious reasons.
8/30 KEEP GOVERNMENT OPEN
Pike County government needs to be more transparent. Supervisors are meeting behind closed doors. Thanks to Mr. Honea regarding the jail.
8/30 SWEPT UNDER THE RUG
The recent death in the Pike County jail was swept under the rug with help from the Enterprise-Journal. There was no follow-up.
9/12 WHERE IS MDOT MONEY GOING?
Mac Gordon’s recent column is on target. MDOT is responsible for maintaining the highways of Mississippi, which includes mowing, picking up trash, trimming trees over roadways, resurfacing and yes, maintaining visitor centers. They have money to build unnecessary roundabouts and raise bridges, but they have no funds for the things which would actually help our state. Where is the money from the lottery going?
9/18 LOVE VS. HATE
Many people hate Donald Trump more than they love the USA.
9/17 A PROFESSIONAL POLICE ENCOUNTER
Apparently there are two videos of the Miami police encounter with Tyreek Hill. The police officers’ initial contact was totally professional, they stopped a speeder from possibly causing some innocent person from being injured or worse. When Hill disrespected the officers by raising the window, all bets were off. Here’s to the liberal media, next time the window comes down the driver will be holding a gun!
9/11 SOME VERY EXPENSIVE EYE DROPS
I just got a prescription for 2.5 ml of eye drops. The cost without insurance is $2,935 for one ounce. I’m glad I only need a small amount.
8/27 ALL CHILDREN EXCEPT THE UNBORN
Sen. Raphael Warnock, supposed reverend, gave an emotional cry out to the children of our country. He’s worried about his children, the neighbors’ children and all children in America, because they’re the future. All children except those in the womb. The Democratic National Convention offered free abortion pills right outside the convention center.
