5/16 THE SUMMIT ROUNDABOUT
I appreciate the letter from Mr. East regarding the cloverleaf in Summit that is to be replaced with the roundabout. He had information that many people may not be aware of. The accident rate at the Walker roundabout was unreal and this is the one Mr. White thought was good. I would like to see the accident rate at the cloverleaf in Summit. It would be nice if we as taxpayers could have had a voice in it.
5/15 RECYCLING IS NOT A PRIORITY
In response to the Two Cents on May 7 about recycling, we can’t think that a city that doesn’t care about the streets, the falling down buildings and trash on the streets is going to be concerned with recycling. We pay taxes but it seems that the money goes anywhere but where it should. There are abandoned houses and buildings that are falling down and are left to rot. To drive down the streets you have to dodge holes that can destroy your car.
5/14 FREE SPEECH LIMITS
I'm taking the liberty to expand on Mr Ryan’s editorial on limits to free speech. At Ole Miss, true Americans confronted hatred, our “Death to America” counterparts. Great job. Now a black woman is complaining (probably seeking compensation) about what she deems as a racial slur. So where is the outcry when our police officers who put their lives on the line are called pigs? Let’s be fair!
5/10 FUNDRAISING PRESSURES
What happened to the days when public schools were free? At North Pike we are asked almost weekly for a donation or to participate in a fundraiser. The fundraisers often come with a prize, such as a pizza or popcorn party, that your child is left out of if you don’t participate. Although we always donate, what about the children left out because of their parents’ financial status?
5/9 THE NEW COUNTY JAIL
Judge Starrett says publicly the planned Pike County jail is too big. Judge Taylor says to the Rotary Club that they can get the population below 100 inmates. Yet the supervisors want to build a 289-bed jail? Hey supervisors: Don’t you dare raise my taxes to build your monument!
5/8 BA-BUMP BA-BUMP BA-BUMP
I recently visited an ancient Third World country and discovered that their streets were better than many streets in our modern-day McComb. I recently visited Pricedale. There is no excuse for the condition of the intersection at Pearl River Avenue and Locust Street. This intersection has been in need of repair for years. Someone must be held responsible. It’s more than rough, it’s dangerous.
5/7 PROBLEMS WITH RECYCLING
What has happened to recycling efforts in Pike County? Tried dropping off my items in Summit last week and the container, as is often the case, was crammed full (and my text request to the one-time contact number to have it emptied was undeliverable). Took the items to the container on Parklane Road by the fire station and that one is apparently no longer accepting items. What’s up?
5/2 DRESS FOR RESPECT
I recently went to a public event, and just as the performance was about to start, a young man walked across in front of the audience. His pants had no belt, were half way down his crack, and his yellow underdrawers were flapping out. Mothers, if you want your children to get more respect, teach them how to dress properly in public.
5/1 REMEMBER POLITICS WHEN
Can anyone remember when presidential candidates campaigned on American jobs, strong military and infrastructure? Beginning with President Obama, the campaigns focused on defunding police, bathroom choice, reparations, illegal immigrants, Death to America protesters, climate change myth and dividing Americans. It is a sad time in America.
