12/31 CHANGING TIMES
How sad it is. In looking through some old church records I see where, in the 1980s, the ladies social circles met at night at the church. Today the ladies are fearful for their safety when going to choir practice on Wednesday night, right here in downtown McComb.
12/19 WHY IGNORE AN OFFER OF HELP?
It is hard to believe that the mayor is so egotistical that he will not accept help for our city when it is an option to help fight violent crime.
12/13 THE IMPORTANT COLOR IS RED
I had no idea the mayor thinks he’s being bullied. He sits as board chairman and allows Tabitha Felder-Isaac to bully Matt Codding at every board meeting. Another thing Selectwoman Felder-Isaac needs to do is get away from the race thing. It’s not about Black or White, it’s about the color Red, for all the bloodshed that is derived from these crimes.
12/11 WHERE THE CRIME IS
They asked Willie Sutton why did he rob banks. “That’s where the money is,” he said. Ask the Pike County sheriff why he sets up checkpoints where he does. That’s where the crime is.
12/10 COMMON-SENSE CRIMEFIGHTING
Great column Dec. 7, Mr. Ryan, pertaining to the sheriff’s department willing to help out with the crime and violence in McComb. Anyone with common sense knows that it is a noble and worthwhile gesture by Sheriff Wally Jones and the supervisors, and deputies should get paid. I am a Black man, and police come into the Black community because that is where most of the problem lies, not because they are racial profiling.
12/11 PUT PRIDE ASIDE
“Let’s all take a deep breath” was a great and true column on Dec. 7. Hopefully all the elected officials read the E-J, then will step back and put their pride aside.
12/19 A CHRISTMAS STORY
My children are in tears. They read in the E-J that Santa Claus was arrested. What kind of goodies has Santa been bringing to all the good little girls and boys?
11/27 GUNSHOT DETECTION EQUIPMENT
I would rather see that money go towards a building that can be converted into a substation for an officer. Put an officer in the area of the high crimes.
12/20 THREE CENTS IN ONE
Hope the Pike County supervisors read the Chat GPT story in Mr. Emmerich’s column in the Dec. 10 edition. ... Pike County seems like a war zone. Helicopters in the air, and IEDs. ... Can’t trust what’s coming out of the White House about drones etc.
12/12 FOR ONCE, EDITOR WAS SPOT-ON
In his Nov. 30 column, editor Jack Ryan acknowledged the problem in college sports by writing about college football’s relentless pursuit of money. The Transfer Portal has allowed coaches to recruit Hired-Gun athletes to help coaches win and keep their obscene salaries. The victim of this corruption is integrity of academia. Not many years ago TV commentators would proudly announce the GPA and graduation rate of student athletes. This is no longer the case.
11/27 A SHINING LIGHT
Bro. Mike Dykes, welcome home! You are truly the shining light that Our Lord desires us to be. Your selfless service to our God, country and troops is above and beyond.
11/29 AN HONEST OPINION
Trump is son of God. He spared his life for a reason, to serve this country, just like the veterans have served the U.S.A. We all need prayer. It’s all God’s will. Please pray for this country. From a faithful reader of your paper. Thanks for all your hard work.
12/4 GOD, TRUMP AND SEPARATE SENTENCES
Per the comment on Trump and God, I will pray for our leadership, just as I do with all leaders, but I must be honest and say, God and Trump do not belong in the same sentence. God brings people together. Trump’s previous rhetoric and actions have been anything but godly. I pray for him now but I also pray for other leaders that they have mercy and grace on the United States. We will need it.
12/18 BEFORE CASTING STONES
Everyone knew the vile rhetoric would continue when Trump was elected, but according to my Bible and my life, no one is sinless. Before judging and casting stones, refer to Genesis and end with The Ten Commandments. Liberals removed prayer from schools, allowed men in women’s sports and bathrooms, advocate nine-month abortions plus a laundry list of issues for which I would hate to stand in God’s judgment.
12/26 SMOKE, FIRE AND A CASINO
I believe that where there is smoke, there is fire involving Phil Bryant. ... Old rich white men want to put a casino in downtown Jackson. How did the East Mississippi power plant work out for them? ... People would not come to a casino in downtown Jackson.
12/17 THE ONLY TRUE PRIVILEGE
The word “privilege” is used as an attack when discussing why some people fail and some succeed. Our current culture must challenge the conventional misunderstanding of privilege. The only true privilege stems from being born into a stable, two-parent household where education and moral values are prioritized. This privilege transcends religion, economic status, racial background and cultural boundaries. A strong family is the most significant determinant of success.
12/3 MORE THAN DEER ARE ON DISPLAY
In response to the bleeding heart that was offended by photos of dead deer on Nov. 22. Based on your suggestion, we could try to eat our supper alive. It seems a bit barbaric, but maybe you wouldn’t be so offended. Also, why don’t you protest the grocery store for openly displaying all those chicken and cow carcasses? How dare they cut up poor cows and chickens? Or the chicken trucks that parade those poor birds all around town on their death ride?
11/26 PROTECT AND SERVE
District attorneys, law enforcement departments and judges should not try to “reform the justice system to restorative justice.” The D.A. is to vigorously represent the victims of crimes. Law enforcement should vigorously protect citizens from crime. Changing criminal laws is not in your job description. Protect and serve the law-abiding citizens.
