3/18 PIKE COUNTY NEEDS A NEW JAIL
I am glad to see that the new jail plans aren’t completely dead. It is my sincere hope that the board of supervisors do not run scared of Gary Honea again when we are ready to pull the trigger on a much-needed asset to Pike County. Everyone should pay their fair share of taxes on what is good for the community that they profit from. There is also selling your assets if you cannot afford the taxes.
3/27 REGARDING A NEW COUNTY JAIL
We already pay taxes to educate these people. If they choose not to use that education and resort to crime for an easy way out, they should suffer in poor conditions. It’s not supposed to be a resort. I don’t have anyone in jail and don’t think I need to pay for a new jail. I’ve worked hard to acquire the assets that I have and shouldn’t have to sell any of it to reduce my tax bill.
3/28 INMATES COULD KEEP JAIL CLEAN
In response to the Two Cents about supporting a new jail, how about painting the inside and doing some cleaning with 409? The inmates could do this. If it’s leaking, repair the leaks. I do not own a lot of property, but I still do not want to pay more taxes. The courthouse is older than the jail. Should be build a new one? Mr. Honea, please run for supervisor again. My family and I would support you.
3/26 WALTHALL COUNTY NEEDS FEMA
Until FEMA is no more, the citizens of Walthall County deserve government assistance. Our governor has been in lockstep with President Trump, which is hurting people in need. State resources are not going to help our community. If this occurred in Madison County, all would be put to the side to help that county. People need to wake up. Don’t just listen to the rhetoric, educate yourself on facts.
3/25 EXPAND THE IDEA FOR ALERTS
The alert service for Pike County residents is a great idea but falls short on possibilities. This same service can be used to alert residents of all emergencies: Amber Alert, auto accidents, road closures, school lockdowns, police pursuits and areas to avoid. Please take advantage of an opportunity and think outside the box. Lead the way and hopefully surrounding counties will join in. (EDITOR’S NOTE: The county reportedly is considering this plan.)
3/21 AN EDITORIAL SURPRISE!
I can’t believe what I just read — your March 19 editorial why Dems are in a slump. I guess I’ll hold off on breaking your fingers, because of late you have slammed Trump and Musk. Government spending, letting workers do almost nothing, waste and fraud are breaking this country. And when a president draws a plan to end it, the left pooches their lips out and screams, threatens, burns cars. These actions just show how low people can get. Attaboy Trump and Musk, and attaboy to you, my friend, for telling the truth.
2/28 GET AFTER THE TELEPHONE THIEVES
Now that Trump is back in office and is going to make everything great again, I hope he can put an end to the lying thieves on the telephone. Those who call from foreign lands but use stolen local numbers. Those who want you to say yes when asked “can you hear me,” so they can steal all your stuff on the phone.
3/5 AND FROM THE INTERNATIONAL DESK
Ukraine wants to end their war since the Biden money pipeline is drying up. President Trump said Russia didn’t invade Ukraine.
3/13 ACT ON SOME OLD IDEAS
Building maintenance funds and citywide cleanup days in municipalities are as old as Prince Albert tobacco. McComb doesn’t need “new ideas,” it needs action on some old ideas. Arguing in board meetings for six months on a one-month project is not action. Start with repairing some streets in the city that motorists use every day.
3/6 A NEW ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF
Congratulations and welcome to McComb, Mr. Perry. Thank you, Mayor and city board members for adding to law enforcement members. There was one concerning statement in the announcement, though. Chief Cloy characterized Mr. Perry “as a social justice type of officer.” This rings as if Mr. Perry is going to coddle the criminals and ignore the victims. Law enforcement and the judicial system must set a tone of no tolerance for crimes against people or property!
3/5 FIX THIS ROAD AND BRIDGE
Pike County supervisors don’t need to get in the real estate business. They need to fix the Johnston Station Road and its bridge. Culverts have been there since 2023.
2/26 READY FOR A GOOD JOB
I see so many brand-new Mercedes around here, I wonder where the high-paying jobs are because I’d really like to have one myself. I have my resumé ready!
2/25 REMOVE THE DROUGHT TREES
Is it about time that our county supervisors start removing all the dead trees along our county roads before someone is hurt or killed by the thousands of dead trees that are about to start falling?
2/21 THE RISK TO LOCAL PHARMACIES
Good articles on the pharmacy situation. Pharmaceutical manufacturing used to be an honorable profession. It is unbelievable and criminal what’s happening today. Some facets of the pharmaceutical business are being run by a bunch of corporate thieves.
2/18 GET MORE HELP WITH CITY AUDITS
Just a suggestion to help the city of McComb complete the financial audit. Ask an SMCC accounting professor to have a class complete the audit. You could give the class one semester to complete the audit or fail the class! Then a graduate student could do a thesis on how this happened, complete with names.
