CHURCHES AND GUNS
Why don’t the churches get together and have a gun buyback? That can give the church officials an opportunity to talk about the good news of Christ.
CHURCHES AND GUNS, PART II
I saw the suggestion that churches have a gun buyback program. I didn’t know churches sold guns in the first place.
SCHOOLS AND HOODIES
Good for McComb High School to tighten the rules on hoodies and get the schools back on track. Don’t exclude sagging pants. What a disgusting sight.
SERIOUS BUILDING NEEDED
Now that the McComb elections are over, the Martin Luther King gymnasium and the Alpha Center should not be used as pawns in this political game. Let’s get down to serious building, like fixing the entrance to our city, Delaware Avenue. Bring in some good-paying jobs in McComb and the industrial park. The county supervisors need to finish street repairs on the west side of town.
GET McCOMB BACK ON TRACK
A new city board; same expectations. Most citizens in McComb want simple things: Safety; a clean city; decent places to shop for services and goods; good-paying jobs and a school district focused on educating and empowering our youth. Let’s hope this board sticks to simple principles and gets McComb back on track. Four years can be a long time if they lose sight.
LIST ALL THE CANDIDATES
The way McComb appoints members to other boards is unethical, inconsiderate and just plain wrong! The city board members should know the names of all those on the list of candidates and not just the one person recommended by the city administrator.
HELP WANTED
How come when the positions of police chief and fire chief become vacant, McComb city hall must advertise “for the best candidate” nationwide and hire from outside the department? But for public works director, they don’t even accept applications and hand pick someone from inside the department. Why do you reckon that is?
DEPOT UPDATE
So in effect the young man that was mad at his mother and allegedly burned down the depot cost every McComb resident additional money for insurance. Seems like this should be added to his fine. What was his punishment?
OIL REFINERIES AND FUEL PRICES
Mr. Ryan’s editorial on June 29 on oil refineries being the problem with our fuel prices should be on national TV. I am retired from a refinery, and reading this article shows how the public has been misled. Can the USA be totally independent of oil? No. Is the government helping Americans with today’s policies? No.
THE SAME ARTICLE TWICE?
Is the news so slow that y’all have to put the same article in the paper twice? On Tuesday, June 14, front-page headline, “Mill gets half of tax relief request approved.” And Page A4, “Supervisors OK half of Weyerhaeuser tax relief request.” I know it’s hard to get good help these days but I guess if they show up for work it’s OK.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Good catch. It was a communication error.
THE POWER OF PRAYER
What is prayer? Prayer is a devout petition to God or an object of worship. Prayer energizes the heat of a believer through the power of the spirit. When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corner to be seen by men. It is important to pray in your personal life because through prayer you can communicate with God.
