4/23 THE WORST INTERSECTION
Recently I had to drive on Pearl River Avenue. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a city or state responsibility, the Locust Street intersection it is a negligence of duty on the part of someone. It has been doing damage to vehicles for years. When will it be fixed?
4/16 DANGEROUS ROAD SHOULDER
People are all the time complaining about streets in McComb. This concern is not about a pothole, but the shoulder of Hart Road by the softball field at Otken Elementary School. If you get a tire off the road, you are history.
4/22 ANOTHER HART ROAD PROBLEM
Concerning the recent comment about Hart Road, yes, there is a dangerous dropoff at the Otken school boundary. We need a turn lane there, northbound from Virginia Avenue to the Otken student pickup area. I have counted as many as 16 cars sitting in Hart Road waiting to pick up students and blocking traffic. Build a turn lane and solve two problems.
4/24 SHOP LOCALLY FOR LAWYERS
As a substantial supporter of the McComb public school system by way of taxes, I object to the school board hiring an attorney from Cleveland for the due process hearing. Don’t we have attorneys closer to home? Doesn’t it cost a lot more to pay an attorney to travel that far? Also, why does the McComb city board use an out-of-town attorney? It all seems like a waste of taxpayer money and a slap in the face of local attorneys.
4/23 WHY THE AUDIT DELAY?
Concerning the city of McComb audits, how did we get to this point in the first place? Who needs to be fired? The cost of hiring out of town CPA firms to reconstruct reports of long ago is much greater than if had been done correctly the first time. What a waste of taxpayer money.
4/18 ‘WORST PLACE’ ISN’T ALL THAT BAD
Per Mac Gordon’s April 17 column, “The worst place for women,” no one disputes that Mississippi fares dead last in women’s health care and other areas. Mississippi is a bottom-feeder in many lists. But I’d rather live to be 74 in Mississippi than 90 in No. 1-ranked Massachusetts, whose women “live longer and better lives.” I bet they don’t get out much.
4/9 LOUNGES HAVE CHANGED
Build it and they will come. Build more beer joints, and we’ll have more drinkers and more drunks. More drunks and we’ll have more fights; more fights and we will have more killings. Lounges have evolved from nice places to relax and chat with friends, to places where friends can meet to fight and kill each other.
4/8 SHOT SPOTTER SOUNDS GREAT
This is super technology for law enforcement! The next step is keeping these criminals off the streets, out of the schools, out of sport games, stores, bars, nightclubs and restaurants. If any of these shooters are juveniles, they and their parents need to be arrested, taken to court and then to jail. If the shooter is an adult, arrest them, take them to court, and then to jail. Judges, it is time to step up and assist law enforcement and protect citizens.
4/4 THE LOUD MUSIC DILEMMA
In regard to the resident’s dilemma with loud music from the restaurant in Magnolia, he should first go to the chancery clerk’s office and obtain a copy of the county noise ordinance. It spells out clearly when music is too loud. For a business, if the noise can be heard past the property line it’s a violation. Next he should go to justice court and swear out an affidavit. He’ll have his day in court and let a judge decide. The fact that he is the only one complaining is irrelevant. If it bothers him on his property it’s a violation. Period.
4/3 NO SURPRISE AT THE ENTERPRISE
Seems Tim Kalich waits in the gap for President Trump to do anything so he can bash the president. Maybe while awaiting Trump’s next breath he could cover all the news happening. Start with Democrats refusing to stand for a 15-year-old cancer patient, calling a paraplegic “Gov. Hot Wheels,” and calling for the take down of Elon Musk which means destroying Teslas. Kind of sounds like Jan. 6th. Mr. Kalich, please quit alienating the subscribers and leave out your personal hatred.
4/2 A JAIL DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A FANCY HOTEL
Regarding the new jail, these criminals do not need a room at the Hilton. Put them in the room with several others. You do the crime, you do the time, but that doesn’t seem to happen now. They get out in a couple of days and do the crime again.
4/1 UNIMAGINABLE PAIN
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Carter Young, killed in the Walthall County tornado. A parent should never be faced with having to create an obituary for their 7- year-old child. It shakes me to my core to image the pain they are in. I pray that God and the community wraps their hands around this family and helps them to find comfort and peace. This is an unimaginable, unhealable pain.
