Grocer Aldi moving into Penney’s space

Workmen have removed a sizable section of the wall around the main entrance of the former J.C. Penney store at the Uptown McComb mall on Veterans Boulevard. Interior renovations continued this week for what Pike County Economic Development District officials confirmed will be the location of an Aldi grocery store. J.C.

Paris Crossley wants to restore the DeSoto Hotel on Summit Street into the thriving business it once was — a significant piece of Black commerce that hosted numerous musical acts who are now household names and stayed there at a time when couldn’t safely travel in much of America.

Osyka man killed in Amite County wreck

An Osyka man died in a motorcycle accident in Amite County on Wednesday evening, the Mississippi Highway Patrol reported.
Andre Bayhi II, 61, was westbound on Highway 584 when his 2003 Honda left the roadway and struck a ditch. Troopers responded to the accident at 6:35 p.m.
Bayhi was pronounced dead at the scene.
