State money for Scenic Rivers and Summit vetoed

Gov. Tate Reeves on Thursday vetoed capital improvement money for two local projects, including $1 million for the Scenic Rivers Development Alliance and $200,000 for improvements in Summit.
The two local projects were among at least 11 that the governor vetoed from a $223 million spending bill.

Supreme Court rejects death row appeal

The Mississippi Supreme Court rejected 5-4 an appeal Thursday from a death row inmate convicted of strangling a retired Amite County teacher in 1998. But an opposing justice, in a lengthy dissent, questioned the majority’s decision, writing that “justice is denied today.”
