Pauline Monley won Summit’s runoff Tuesday after besting J.R. McBeth in a special election for a vacant town council seat.
She had 158 (68%) votes to McBeth’s 76 (32%).
Monley, who previously served one term on the town council, will fulfill the remainder of former Councilman Joe Lewis’ term. Lewis resigned in May after serving 19 years, citing health reasons. The term ends June 30, 2025.
“I’m very thankful for the citizens, who came out,” Monley said.
She said she was worried about a low voter turnout but attributed her success to hard campaigning and efforts to get supporters to the polls.
“Hard work pays off,” she said.
Tuesday’s runoff had seen more voters than the June 25 special election, which generally runs counter to election norms. The voter turnout for the contest was 26%.
