A fresh coat of asphalt for Presley Boulevard in McComb and erosion control on the Buffalo River at Highway 61 are among millions of dollars in highway projects taking place in Southwest Mississippi, state transportation officials said.
Crews from Dickerson & Bowen are milling and overlaying two miles of Presley Boulevard from Interstate 55 to Highway 51 as part of a $2.3 million project, Mississippi Department of Transportation officials said. The work, which also will address traffic signals, is taking place at night. The project is expected to conclude this winter.
In Wilkinson County, Midway Construction of Roxie recently completed a $1.5 million bank stabilization project on Highway 61 at the Buffalo River. The project involved reshaping adjoining creeks of the Buffalo River and erosion control measures.
Also on Highway 61, crews from W.E. Blain & Sons of Mount Olive have overlaid 11 miles from Doloroso at the Wilkinson-Adams County line to Kingston as part of a $5.7 million project.
In Lincoln County, Dickerson & Bowen is close to finishing a $2.8 million mill and overlay project on highways 184 and 583.
The project covers two portions of 184 — a two-mile stretch from Highway 84 to Highway 51 and five miles from the beginning of state maintenance near Brookway Boulevard to Highway 84.
Highway 583 will be milled and overlaid from 84 to the end of state maintenance.
Traffic signal work is complete, and paving is nearing completion.
In Franklin County, a $5.8 million overlay project on eight miles of Highway 84 from the Adams County line east to Chambers Road is ongoing, and crews are preparing for the final stripe. Contractor APAC expects to complete the job by the end of the year.
Other projects under the operations of the MDOT’s District 7 office in McComb are taking place in Simpson, Smith, Marion and Adams counties, MDOT officials said.
