McComb High School graduate and former Mississippi State baseball player Ted Milton was announced as a member of the 2025 Ron Polk Ring of Honor class on Thursday.
Milton joins Mike Proffitt and Mitch Moreland in the list of inductees, and the trio will be celebrated during the Bulldogs' weekend series with South Carolina from April 4-6. A ceremony for the new Ring of Honor members will be held Saturday, April 5.
Playing for the "Diamond Dawgs" from 1969-1972, Milton was named MSU's offensive MVP following the '69 and '70 campaigns. He was also a member of the Bulldogs' first-ever College World Series team in 1971.
Over his four-year career in the Maroon and White, Milton hit .311 with 23 home runs, 18 doubles, 14 triples and drove in 96. "Yard Dog," as he came to be known by while in Starkville, stole eight bases and scored 102 runs as well.
Following the 1971 season, Milton was named Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, becoming the first academic All-American in school history.
Milton was drafted twice out of MSU, once in 1972 by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 26th round and again in the 1973 January Secondary Phase by the California Angels.
He went on to eventually come back to coach McComb's baseball, football and basketball teams. Milton even coached a state-title winning team on the diamond in 1992.
The Ring of Honor is named after former Mississippi State head coach Ron Polk, who coached through two tenures with the Bulldogs and is affectionately known as the "Godfather of SEC baseball" given the immense amount of time he spent within the league. He was a four-time SEC Coach of the Year and was the first SEC coach to reach the 1,000-win mark in any sport.
