The McComb school board, in a 35-minute closed session Friday evening, voted on renewing the superintendent's contract — but then refused to disclose the outcome.
Unless school board members or someone else says something, the public will not know the results of the vote until Feb. 11, when minutes from all of the board's meetings in January are made public.
"If I could, I would," board chairman Angela Bates said when asked to discuss the executive session votes. "But it's a board decision."
Dr. Tiffany Hicks, who has been superintendent since last July 1, is working on a one-year contract.
The board also voted on the appointment of a hearing officer for a personnel matter, and on "engagement of outside legal counsel to represent the administration" in a personnel. No trustee would say how the board voted on those two matters, either.
The board's agenda did not specify whether those two items involve the same employee. But employees who are disciplined or terminated have the right to ask for a hearing of the case. The two votes came a week after Hicks dismissed Betty Wilson McSwain from the administration office.
