Pike County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who fled custody Monday afternoon.
Javier Marslyia Kidd, 19, jumped out of a transport van at the intersection of 24th and LaBranch streets in McComb at 12:53 p.m.
Officials said Kidd was last seen running southwest from the intersection.
Chief Deputy Brad Bellipanni said Kidd, a 5-foot-7, 150-pound Black male, had been taken to McComb Municipal Court, where he was facing misdemeanor charges, and was being brought back to the jail when he escaped. Other details about his charges weren’t available.
“He managed to slip off his handcuffs, open the door and jump out of the van,” Bellipanni said.
Kidd is now facing more serious charges, Bellipanni said.
“Jumping out of a jail transport van is just gonna make it harder on yourself,” he said.
Kidd is not considered to be armed and dangerous, Bellipanni said. Deputies believe he is still in McComb and likely receiving help from someone, who also is placing themselves in legal jeopardy, he said.
“Somebody knows where he’s laying his head tonight,” Bellipanni said, adding that anyone aiding Kidd will also face “the appropriate charges.”
