The MHSAA 1A-4A baseball and softball playoffs are set to begin this weekend, and that means that McComb and South Pike's teams are kicking off their postseason stays.
In McComb, the Tigers baseball team enters the 4A bracket as a No. 4 seed, and thus it will face No. 1 Greene County in a best-of-three series.
Game One is slated for a 7 p.m. first pitch on Friday in Leakesville, while Game Two takes place at 2 p.m. on Saturday in McComb. If needed, Game Three is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, with the potential rubber match being played at Greene County.
A series win would see McComb advance to battle the victor of the No. 2 Morton vs. No. 3 Northeast Lauderdale matchup.
And down in Magnolia, the South Pike softball team will be a No. 4 seed in the 4A field, meaning that the Lady Eagles will also battle No. 1 Greene County this weekend.
Game One is slated for a 5 p.m. first pitch on Friday in Leakesville, while Game Two takes place right after. If needed, Game Three is scheduled for Monday.
A series win would see South Pike advance to battle the victor of the No. 2 Morton vs. No. 3 Newton County matchup.
Other regional teams that qualified for the postseason include Franklin County softball (3A, No. 2), Salem softball (1A, No. 2), Bogue Chitto baseball (1A, No. 1), Salem baseball (1A, No. 3), Amite County baseball (2A, No. 4) and Franklin County baseball (3A, No. 1) as of Monday.
