Taylor Adaline Thompson Poe graduated from Baylor University on Aug. 14, receiving Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees.
Poe defended her doctoral dissertation in mathematics, entitled “Poncelet Polygons Through the Lenses of Orthogonal Polynomials on the Unit Circle, Finite Blaschke Products, and Numerical Ranges.” Her mentors were Dr. Andrei Martinez-Finkelshtein and Dr. Brian Simanek.
While attending Baylor, she was named a Baptist College and University Scholar, a Conyers Graduate Scholar and a Graduate School Fellowship recipient. She also served as a representative for the Baylor Graduate Student Association.
During her tenure at Baylor, Poe taught business pre-calculus, business calculus and calculus. She received the Outstanding Graduate Mathematics Teaching Award after the 2018-19 year. She was selected in the fall of 2019 as Baylor’s Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor.
Poe said spending this time in the classroom with students and sharing her love of math led to her decision to pursue a career as a full- time professor.
She returned to her alma mater, Mississippi College, as a math professor this fall.
Poe is a 2013 graduate of North Pike High School. She is the daughter of Scott and Hope Thompson. She is married to Jonathan Poe of Collinsville, and they will reside in Clinton.
