Kim Vaughn is the fourth comptroller to resign from the City of McComb in a two-year span, city officials confirmed Tuesday.
Vaughn took the position a few months ago and resigned to take another job, Mayor Quordiniah Lockley said.
Lockley said the city is advertising for a new comptroller.
City Administrator David Myers said Vaughn’s resignation notice was a little less than two weeks.
“No problems on our end,” Myers said. “Of course, she came in yesterday and she had another job and she decided to resign.”
In the meantime, Myers said comptroller duties are being distributed among other city employees.
Myers said he would like the next comptroller to remain with the city longer.
“We want, obviously, the most qualified person,” Myers said. “Whoever comes in, takes the position, we want them to stay.”
Myers said candidates could be enticed by the city’s benefits.
“The working environment here is great,” he said. “As far as their qualifications, they could very well come in at a higher pay scale.”
The city is advertising a salary range in the high-$40,000s for the position.
“Of course, our last comptroller came in at a different percentage because she had experience,” Myers said. “We’re hoping that happens to the next person that comes in that’s got experience. The advertised salary, that’s exactly what it is, just advertised salary. Based on qualifications, that person could come in at a higher pay scale.”
