Police have filed charges against a man in connection with a July drive-by shooting that wounded one person.
Jamarius Malik Matthews, 24, of McComb, was charged Sunday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
Matthews allegedly shot into a car at the intersection of 25th and Venable streets around 1:30 p.m. July 21.
McComb police said someone fired into a white Ford Crown Victoria and a silver Dodge Charger.
A passenger in the Crown Victoria was shot multiple times. The passenger, still unidentified by police, was taken to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Police identified Matthews and Devin Roberts as the occupants of the Dodge Charger that victims said was used in the shooting.
Matthews’ bond was set at $101,000.
Meanwhile, burglaries continue to plague the city after residents reported multiple break-ins and a stolen vehicles over the past two weeks.
There were two burglaries of homes on Saturday. The first was in the 200 block of Maddox Street. Chief Detective Victoria Carter said someone forced their way through a door and took various items, including chairs, a table, food, air conditioning unit, four fans, three rims from a 2009 Nissan Altima and a crock pot.
The second break-in happened in the 400 block of Live Oak Street. Carter said the front door had been damaged and two televisions were taken. She said the homeowner’s all-terrain-vehicle was also taken and found nearby on the side of the road.
Around 10 a.m. Aug. 25, a vehicle was broken into in the 1000 block of Sedgewick Street. Someone stole $60 in cash, $15 in change and a Regions Bank debit card.
At 11:45 p.m. Aug. 22, an unidentified woman stole a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu in Kramertown. Sam Schifano said he gave a ride to a woman and when he stepped out of the car, she apparently drove off.
In other recent arrests:
• Elizabeth Estelle Jackson, 50, of Summit, was charged with possession of a controlled substance by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.
• Jordi Armond Griffin, 36, of Galliano, La., was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and false statement of identity.
• Dwight A. Dillon Jr., 28, of McComb, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a vehicle, possession of paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a minor by the Mississippi Highway Patrol on Aug. 28.
• Roosevelt D. Bell, 18, of Summit, was charged with possession of a weapon on school property by the PCSO Aug. 27.
• Tevan Carr, 27, of McComb, was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute by the PCSO Aug. 26.
