State and federal officials are in McComb this week to help people affected by Hurricane Ida apply for assistance to help pay for uncovered damages and economic losses from the storm.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest loans to homeowners and renters, as well as businesses.
Businesses and nonprofits may apply for up to $2 million in loans to recover from economic losses, with interest rates of 2.85% for businesses ad 2% for nonprofits.
Homeowners and renters may apply for up to $200,000 in losses to recover from damages to their primary residences and up to $40,000 for lost personal property, with interest rates of 1.563% for 30 years.
The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is Dec. 21, 2021, and July 22, 2022, for economic losses.
The disaster declaration covers Pike, Amite, Walthall, Wilkinson, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Pearl River counties.
Small businesses and most private nonprofits in contiguous counties and parishes, including Franklin, Lawrence, Lincoln counties in Mississippi East Feliciana, Tangipahoa and Washington and West Feliciana parishes in Louisiana are also eligible to apply.
Borrowers must have an acceptable credit history and demonstrated ability to repay the loans. Collateral is required for physical loss loans over $25,000 and all economic loss loans over $25,000.
Apply by registering at DisasterAssistance.gov, downloading the FEMA mobile app or by calling FEMA at (800) 621-3362. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services should call (800) 621-3362.
