TYLERTOWN — Aldermen last week accepted an agreement with the state Department of Environmental Quality to use Municipal and County Water Infrastructure grant funds to improve the town’s sewer system.
The grant will reimburse the town for expenditures it makes on the improvement project.
The board also voted to readvertise for contractors to rehabilitate the former Walthall Hotel on Beulah Avenue.
No bids were submitted by the Jan. 12 deadline given in the previous advertisement for the project. The town was awarded a $450,000 grant to help fund the project.
The board also:
• Accepted proposals for administrative and engineering services on community development block grant projects. Sample, Hicks and Associates submitted the only proposal for administration, and Dungan Engineering submitted the only engineering proposal.
• Set a public hearing on CDBG projects at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3,
• Authorized board members and city staff to attend the Mississippi Municipal League summer conference in June.
• Acknowledged receipts of $415,696, including $294,534 to the general fund, $6,842 in lease payments, $28,281 in garbage fees, $35,712 in water and sewer fees and $50,328 in state funds.
• Paid bills of $182,057, including $123,423 from the general fund, $28,427 from the sanitation fund and $30,207 from the water and sewer fund.
